How-To Guide

Step 1: CREATE & FORMAT Your Masterpiece

After you’ve written your manuscript, organized your photos and illustrations and decided what headings or captions are appropriate, you’re ready to format everything before your final edit. It’s probably easiest to get the look you want in programs like Adobe InDesign, or Microsoft Publisher, but this can also be accomplished in Microsoft Word. Choose the page size you want and decide on the overall format that appeals to you. Looking through other similar thesis will help you decide. If you’ve included images, they’ll need to be in high-resolution jpeg or tiff format (300 dpi at the size you want them displayed) and, for colour printing, they should ideally be prepared as CMYK files.

Please ensure that you either own the copyright for all images or have written permission to reproduce them.

Before you create your final files for printing, you’ll want to proofread again – and again! Our prices are very good and our quality is second to none but if there are typos and errors in the files you submit, there will be typos and errors in your finished book. An extra hour or two to double check will be time well spent.

Step 2: PREPARE Your Files

When you are finished laying out and editing your thesis, you will need to prepare your files to send to PageforPage.com. We are able to accept files in PDF format, or as Word (.doc, .docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) files.

PDF files allow you to use any fonts that are on your computer system and ensure that they will reproduce the way you expect them to in your final book, keeping your layout exactly as you intended. There are a number of tools available that will allow you to create PDF files including Adobe Acrobat Pro, or freeware/shareware options such as CutePDF or PrimoPDF Converter. If you are using Mac OS, the ability to save a file as a PDF document is already built in! Simply choose File > Print, and then select the Save As PDF option in the lower left corner of the print dialogue box. Be sure to include high quality imagery and select the “Embed Fonts” option if it is presented to you.

PageforPage.com can also convert your Word or RTF files into PDF for you for a small charge of $50.00. Please note, however, that we can only accept Word and RTF files which use the following fonts:

  • Arial
  • Book Antiqua
  • Bookman Old Style
  • Century
  • Courier
  • Helvetica
  • Garamond
  • Palatino
  • Tahoma
  • Times New Roman
  • Verdana
  • Symbols
